AMD’s set to unleash two bleeding-edge processors, the Ryzen 9 9950X3D and Ryzen 9 9900X3D, based on the company’s latest Zen 5 architecture and 3D V-Cache technology. While details remain scarce, it is reported that the forthcoming CPUs will be revealed at CES 2025, and hit shelves around the end of January.
Ryzen 3D V-Cache Adds More, Beefy Options For High-End Gamers & Enthusiasts So, the first of these chips is aimed squarely at the high-end gamers and enthusiasts of the bunch, allowing for an extensive Ryzen 3D V-Cache lineup of enthusiast-grade performance.

AMD Ryzen 9 9950X3D and 9900X3D with 3D V-Cache Set for Late January Launch After CES 2025
And the better-reviewed, better-selling Ryzen 7 9800X3D appears to have laid the groundwork for these new launches. AMD is now following up on that success with the 2nd Gen V-Cache technology and full overclocking support for the new Ryzen 9 9950X3D and 9900X3D.
The 16-core, 32-thread Ryzen 9 9950X3D will be a single CCD V-Cache die cluster processor. It will feature a 64MB cache from the CCDs and another 64MB 3D V-Cache stack added on, giving it a total of 128MB L3 cache. It will also feature 16MB of L2 cache, increasing the cache well that’s 144MB. The Ryzen 9 9900X3D, meanwhile, will have a 12-core configuration and 12MB of L2 cache with a total cache of 140MB. The two processors will keep many of the performance and efficiency gains that the Ryzen 7 9800X3D was known for, particularly in gaming.
AMD has not yet revealed any specific clock speeds or TDP numbers but given that the Ryzen 7 9800X3D has a 120W TDP, that may carry across to the Ryzen 9 models, or perhaps slightly higher. In terms of gaming power consumption, these 3D V-Cache chips are very efficient, and doing very well in terms of power consumption. That extra headroom under TDP, though, could be used to great effect for multi-threaded workloads, or overclocking. Overall, these new Ryzen chips promise to deliver strong performance, especially for gamers seeking high-performance CPUs with excellent gaming efficiency.
