With time, Chromebooks are getting more and more popular because of its simplicity and low cost. Even though they are less expensive they lack a significant performance and the ones with Intel Core CPUs are even more expensive.
The AMD Ryzen Mobile processors can help this situation obviously, and so we have some leaks of the upcoming Chromebooks featuring the previous-gen Ryzen 3000 mobile processors based on 12nm rather than the latest Ryzen 4000 which are a bit more costly.
Overall from running on the AMD low-end APUs, the new Chromebooks will benefit from more cores and clock speeds of the Ryzen APUs which also feature the powerful Vega iGPU.
The latest Chrome OS update source code has mentioned the existence of Ryzen 7 3700C, Ryzen 3500C and Ryzen 3 3250C APUs. These processors appear to be derived from the Zen+ desktop-grade CPUs. The Reddit user coelacanth_poor has spotted the BIOS lines of the code which confirms the existence of the Picasso family of APUs.
Additionally to this, the code also includes references for the Athlon Silver 3050C, Athlon Gold 3150C APUs with integrated Vega GPUs which are part of the Dali family. Both the four core Ryzen and dual-core Athlon APUs will help increase the performance of these low-budget Chromebooks and keep the pricing below $500 price mark.
Considering the fact that the Ryzen 4000 mobile processors are soon coming to consumer laptops with Windows, the previous gen, which surely will get cheaper, will be the perfect option for OEMs and laptop manufacturers. As the RAM and memory will be compensated only the cheaper and faster Ryzen CPUs can help to speed up the Chromebooks.
