AMD has decided to revise specifications for its upcoming CPUs yet again. This time, the Ryzen 7040HS family is the victim, and the changes are significant. Team Red appears to have reduced the frequency of the RDNA3-based iGPU on the Ryzen 7040HS series of CPUs.
According to Bionic squash, AMD has reduced the clock speed of every Phoenix Point-HS iGPU by 200MHz. It was previously reported that the Radeon 780M (7940HS) has a clock speed of 3GHz.
AMD has gone off on a tangent and downgraded the specifications of these Ryzen 7040HS iGPUs
It is worth noting that a 200MHz decrease is unlikely to result in a significant difference in performance. This could have been a spur-of-the-moment decision to improve efficiency. However, it is unfortunate that RDNA3 will not be reaching 3GHz anytime soon. Maybe Navi32 or Navi33 can pull it off.
The specifications are only available on the Chinese AMD website, with regional availability limited to this country. These parts use the same clocks as the original 7000HS parts, allowing for clock speeds of up to 3.0 GHz for the 7940HS. AMD’s Ryzen 7000HS series should be available sooner rather than later. The closer we get to the launch, the more changes are made to the product specs, and none of them seem to improve things.
