AMD Radeon RX 5500 crushes GTX 1650 in benchmarks

Launched a few weeks back, the new Navi based Radeon GPU is exclusively available for OEMs i.e. for pre-built PCs and laptops. Already being featured in MSI’s Alpha 15 the new Navi GPU is on a trend already.

Recently, a leaked sales guide by AMD has been flooding online which gives a good idea of this card’s real-world gaming performance and some benchmarks against its competitor GTX 1650. AMD’s marketing team is lining up this budget GPU against NVIDIA’s current budget GPU i.e. the GeForce GTX 1650.

Not comparing the GPU with the likes of GTX 1660 or 1660 Ti, AMD wants to show how it totally dominates NVIDIA’s counterpart. The leaked sales guide compares the RX 5500 with the GTX 1650 in numerous modern gaming titles including eSports and triple-A ones.

Being powered by RDNA architecture, the Radeon RX 5500 provides up to 1.6X higher gaming performance-per-watt than current Radeon graphics cards based on the Graphics Core Next (GCN) architecture.

The RX 5500 and RX 5500M cards will ship with 22 CUs, 14 fewer CUs (-39%) than the next card in AMD’s stack, the Radeon RX 5700. The new GPUs have higher clock speeds carrying a maximum game clock of 1717MHz, 92MHz (6%) higher than the RX 5700, also the maximum boost clock is higher as well, of 1845MHz.

The RX 5500 series will have a peak compute/shader throughput of 5.2 TFLOPs and will come with a 128-bit memory bus. AMD will be using the faster GDDR6 memory and a 224GB/sec memory bandwidth.

The desktop GPUs will have both 4GB and 8GB of VRAM options. AMD’s product pages list the Radeon 5500 series with a 110W TDP and AMD has recommended a single 8-pin power connector for them to boot.

Talking about the RX 5500M, it has similar specs like the desktop variants, it will have a base clock speed of 1.4GHz and 1.64GHz boost. It will feature 4GB of VRAM and a lower 4.6TFLOPs, rest all specs remains the same.

AMD Radeon RX 5500 crushes GTX 1650 in benchmarks

As per the sales guide, the RX 5500 provides up to 75% more frames per second (fps) in Battlefield 5 and up to 85% more in World War Z against GTX 1650. In other titles like Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 and Grand Theft Auto V, the AMD GPU provides up to 49% better performance than Nvidia’s SKU.

Overall in modern triple-A games, this GPU attains 60+ FPS in each of the titles. Also, it attains even 100+ FPS in some titles depending upon the preset (high, medium or ultra and other settings).

Coming to the eSports titles, the AMD GPU just blows the NVIDIA counterpart by huge margins. The Radeon RX 5500 can churn out 90 fps in titles like Fortnite (high), Apex Legends (ultra-high), and PUBG (high).

The NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1650 struggles to keep up and loses in all eSports games including Overwatch and Rainbow Six Siege. On an average, AMD card scores up to 37% better than NVIDIA’s budget card.

Also, with support for features like FidelityFX, AMD FreeSync, Anti-Lag, and Image Sharpening, this GPU is a modern and capable one for 1080p gaming. The GDDR6 memory really pushes the GPU’s performance, it will be interesting to see how it competes against the likes of the upcoming GTX 1650 Super.

Overall as per the sales guide the new RX 5500 seems great honestly in that budget segment. Even though the price has not been leaked, still we can hope it to be priced similar to GTX 1650.
