AMD is looking to fight Nvidia in 4K gaming technology

AMD is busy taking on its rival companies like Intel and Nvidia. It seems that the company is doing so while offering high performance and innovations to its customers. According to sources, the company is currently testing a new supersampling feature designed to increase performance during ray tracing.

Sources claim that this feature is an alternative to NVIDIA’s DLSS feature and will be open and cross-platform. So we can assume that it may come to PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X, both of which are powered by AMD technology. However, this feature is a long way ahead as it won’t be ready in time to launch the Radeon RX 6000 cards.

AMD is looking to head with Nvidia in terms of 4K gaming and more; the one big missing piece of this battle was the lack of technology to tackle Nvidia’s DLSS. Nvidia’s AI-powered supersampling technology has been transformative for the games that support it. It brings excellent image quality and higher frame rates by simply toggling up a game’s setting.

AMD reported a new supersampling feature in testing, which is designed to increase performance during ray tracing. The company promises its supersampling technology will be open and cross-platform. According to sources, the company is reportedly working with several partners on this technology.

NVIDIA’s DLSS 2.0 feature is powered by the RTX series GPUs’ Tensor Cores. It is an AI-powered image reconstruction technique that improves visuals considerably with no impact on the system’s performance. Several titles, including  Death Stranding and Ghostrunner and the soon to come Cod: Black OPS Civil War, also make use of DLSS 2.0 to deliver unprecedented visual quality.

AMD’s Radeon RX 6800 XT and RX 6800 cards will be released on November 18th, while the Radeon RX 6900 XT, which will go against NVIDIA’s GeForce RTX 3090, will release on December 8th. As to whether AMD’s new tech will give it an edge over Nvidia remains to be seen.
