AMD Ryzen 9 5980HS posts impressive Geekbench scores at 35W TDP

The Red team seems to be all pumped up for the future as its highly anticipated first 5nm based CPUs will be coming next year to bring new Zen 3 architecture.

It is being reported that AMD would eventually become TSMC’s biggest customer for both 5nm and 3nm based process nodes by 2023/2024, as reported by ChineTimes. It also confirms the reported codenames of Zen 4 based server CPUs, i.e. EPYC Genoa, Ryzen 7000 CPUs or Raphael and Ryzen 7000 APUs or Phoenix.

AMD’s Zen 4 based CPUs will use TSMC’s 5nm process node & the IOD will be based on TSMC’s 6nm process node. Also, the presence of 28 PCIe Gen 4.0 lanes is now confirmed with CPUs coming with 105-120W TDPs, and the AM5 platform will support DDR5-5200 RAMs, more NVMe 4.0 & maybe support for USB 4.0.

Zen 4 is now supposed to give around a 20% IPC increase over last year’s Zen 3, and this kind of jump is expected because of the leap in architecture. Not only this, the architecture will allow Zen 4 CPUs will feature 8 core chiplets, so expect around 50% performance per watt gains between Zen 3 and Zen 4.

Not only this, AMD’s much talked Zen 5 architecture will be based on a hybrid big.LITTLE architecture which will see the use of Zen 5 based “big cores” and Zen 4 based “efficiency cores”, and now their codenames are cross-verified with previous leaks as well.

The Zen 5 based server processors will be called EPYC Turin whereas the Ryzen 8000 desktop CPUs will be codenamed Granite Ridge and Ryzen 8000 APUs to be called Strix Point. Know more about Zen 5 based Granite Ridge from here: AMD Ryzen 8000 series processors with Zen 5 hybrid architecture will be codenamed, Granite Ridge.
