AMD‘s upcoming Krackan Point APU, featuring a 6-core design, has recently appeared in the Geekbench AI benchmark, showcasing an intriguing 3+3 core configuration. This new processor, based on AMD’s Zen 5 architecture, is aimed at the budget segment and will complement AMD’s existing Zen 5 offerings for mainstream users. We haven’t really seen any detailed specs on the Krackan Point lineup until now, and a new leak gives us some hints.

AMD Krackan Point APU with 6 Cores Spotted in Geekbench, Set for 2025 Launch
An X leak earlier today (via @Olrak29_) has shown that at least one of the Krackan Point chips has been tested on Geekbench AI for its NPU (Neural Processing Unit). In its tests, the chip achieved scores of 2019 points in Single Precision, 1276 points in Half Precision, and 3773 points in Quantization. These results are modest, though—not surprising for an early engineering sample—so there is potential for final performance to improve.
An AMD Engineering Sample (100-000001600-40_Y) chip was detected on the test laptop, as well. It consists of a 6-core/12-thread processor (with two separate core complexes, with 3 cores each; 3x Zen 5 + 3x Zen 5c). It has not yet been determined if these clusters are on a single CCD or two. AMD’s Ryzen 5 8500G which applies a 2+4 core configuration on one cluster suggests that the Krackan Point chip might stick to that design or cruise in with dual CCDs.
It has been reported that this chip could be the 6-core Ryzen AI 5 340/330 APU, an entry-level model of the Krackan Point series. For the mid-range segment, there will be a Ryzen AI 7 350 with an 8-core. Ryzen AI 7 will come with 8 cores and follow the Krackan Point name, while the Ryzen AI Pro will hand off a Strix Point CPU featuring 8 cores. Set to debut in early 2025 on affordable platforms, Krackan Point may also find its way into next-gen consoles as a Ryzen Z2 Extreme chip for better performance and battery life with an added edge over the Z1 Extreme.
