After several drama and tantrums of Amber Heard with her husband Johhny Depp. Amber Heard has confirmed her return as Mera in the upcoming Aquaman 2. At the time of an exclusive presentation at CinemaCon, Warner Bros unveiled the first trailer of DC’s Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom.
In this sequel, we have seen Jason Momoa as the underwater superhero Aquaman with a brief cameo of his onscreen queen Mera aka Amber. In the end, we are once again going to see the story of Arthur and Mera.
Amber Heard to play the major role in Aquaman and The Lost Kingdom
Heard’s Mera briefly faces a battle scene in the preview. In between the supporters of Johnny Depp launched an online campaign to delete Heard from the sequel, a petition that has got over 4.6 million signatures.
Last spring, the “domestic abuser” petition got a major boost when Depp and Heard traded allegations of domestic violence and abuse at their high-profile defamation trial in Virginia. The jury concluded by awarding Depp more than $10 million, while Heard got just $2 million. After losing the case, Heard expressed her disappointment that the overwhelming amount of evidence was insufficient to stand up against the disproportionate power, influence, and sway of her ex-husband.
The head writer of the DC film Walter Hamada had called to testify in court regarding Heard’s diminished screen time. He has contradicted her legal team’s claim as the role has altered to be a result of the allegations against Depp.
At the trial, Hamada stated, “The size of the role in the film that she was determined in the early development of the script,”
Aquaman 2 trailer reveals Amber’s return, despite Johnny Depp fans’ protests. Heard testified during the trial that she nearly lost her role in “Aquaman” due to the media firestorm surrounding her legal battles with Depp. The then-president of Warner Bros. Pictures claimed in a video deposition, however, that Heard was almost recast due to a lack of onscreen “chemistry” between her and Momoa rather than because of the Depp controversy.
He also contradicted Heard’s assertion that her role in “Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom” had been scaled down due to the Depp situation, claiming that Mera was never intended to be the sequel’s central character and that her and Momoa’s chemistry was insufficient.
In between all of this, both Heard and Depp got a mix of hate and support on social media throughout the trial, animosity toward the former was more common. James Wan directs “Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom,”. The film is going to hit the theatres on 20th December 2023.
