One of the most preferred ways for streaming providers to lure new members is through original series and movies. We’re confident that success stories like Netflix’s Arcane and Amazon’s Wheel of Time are prime instances of this trend.
However, Amazon may have another huge premiere on the way: the company’s original content division is working on a new series based on BioWare’s popular Mass Effect franchise.
This information comes from a Deadline story published yesterday. According to the site, Amazon Studios is “nearing an agreement” with Electronic Arts to make such a series, however, specifics such as the number of episodes and length are unknown at this early stage.
In any case, this is exciting news for long-time BioWare fans. Though the current Mass Effect game, Andromeda, was not well regarded by players, the prior titles still hold their today. Although the level of their gameplay mechanics fluctuates from title to title, their dependably excellent storytelling is still regarded as some of the best in the business.
Of course, as any gamer will tell you, movie or television adaptations of popular gaming series don’t necessarily carry over the elements that made the franchise so popular. As a result, there’s no assurance that a Mass Effect program will feature the same interesting side tales and characters as the games. However, Amazon has a strong track record in the original content production market, so there is cause to be positive; especially if EA is ready to risk the image of one of its most well-known brands.
Hopefully, Amazon Studios and EA can reach an agreement. Even if the program is a flop, it will be exciting to witness the Mass Effect universe in a way we haven’t seen before.
