The All India Radio (AIR) wants to air IPL 2020. They are waiting for the permission of BCCI.
According to AIR, they have officially requested BCCI for the radio rights. But they are yet to hear from the Indian board.
CEO of AIR, Shashi Shekhar Vempati, last month in an interview said that “We had written to the BCCI before the coronavirus outbreak but there has been no response. But we are optimistic about it. We have again written to them and are hopeful of a positive response.”
Today he again said, “I have personally written to the President of BCCI to consider expanding the current MoU arrangement. We already have the radio rights for the BCCI matches in India. We have requested them to include the IPL in the understanding so that radio listeners get to follow the matches. In this Covid-19 pandemic situation, it will also be in the public interest. We hope they will get back to us soon.”
Last year BCCI and AIR had entered an agreement that gives AIR every right to air every international and domestic match played in the country. The contract was signed for 2 years. For this agreement, cricket commentary was back on the radio after 5 years. Now they requested to add IPL in that list as well.
IPL is going to start from 19th September. AIR wants a quick reply from BCCI in this matter.
