Apple sent out invitations for its September 12th iPhone 15 announcement event recently and iPhone 15, iPhone 15 Plus, iPhone 15 Pro, and iPhone 15 Pro Max (Ultra) are among the minimum of four new iPhone models we may anticipate. Apple may also reveal other goods during this “Wonderlust” event, and the new AirPods may be one of them.
At its event on September 12th, Apple is reportedly going to introduce updated AirPods with a USB-C charging case.
According to Mark Gurman of Bloomberg via MacRumors, these AirPods will be released to coordinate with the new iPhones. They will also have a USB-C charging case. For those who are unaware, it is highly anticipated that the iPhone 15 series will feature USB-C connections when Apple eventually abandons the Lightning port.
Regarding the new AirPods, the article says nothing more about their functionality or other improvements. Additionally, it’s unclear whether Apple will upgrade the standard AirPods or the Pro model. The 3 model debuted in October 2021, and the second-generation AirPods Pro debuted in September 2022 alongside the iPhone 14 series. So an upgrade is necessary for both models.
It’s not the first time that we’ve heard of AirPods that have a USB-C charging port. Analyst Ming-Chi Kuo had predicted earlier this year that Apple would release the Pro 2 with USB-C later in the year. Additionally, the iOS 16.4 developer beta version has the same bug. Kuo brings up the Pro 2, which raises the possibility that Apple may merely make changes to the charging case and leave the other functions untouched.
Kuo noted that a USB-C version of the AirPods 2 and 3 is doubtful. This means that at the iPhone 15 announcement event, USB-C will only be available for the ‘Pro’ model. All of this suggests that the Pro models will just receive a new charging case and not any further upgrades.
