When your name appears on an official cricket board’s website, the internet goes wild. That’s exactly what happened to Agni Dev Chopra, son of acclaimed filmmaker Vidhu Vinod Chopra, when reports surfaced claiming he’d registered for Pakistan Super League 2026. But the cricketer-turned-USA player just set the record straight—and he’s not holding back.

Setting the Record Straight
Taking to Instagram Stories, Agni Dev didn’t mince words. “Fake and misleading reports are being circulated in my name regarding a tournament,” he wrote. “I have not enrolled for the PSL. I remain fully focused on my cricket journey in the USA and my long-term career goals.”
The confusion likely stemmed from his USA eligibility as a Detroit-born cricketer, which may have caused administrative mix-ups on the Pakistan Cricket Board’s player list. But Agni Dev made it crystal clear: he’s committed to building his career through USA Cricket, not the Pakistan Super League.
From Ranji Record-Breaker to USA Prospect
Before anyone knew him as a filmmaker’s son, Agni Dev was making headlines for his cricket prowess. Playing for Mizoram in the 2023-24 Ranji Trophy Plate division, he became the tournament’s highest run-scorer and etched his name in cricket history as the first player ever to score centuries in each of his first four first-class matches.
His domestic credentials include stints in major Indian tournaments like the Vijay Hazare Trophy and Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy. Now, he’s channeling that talent toward representing the United States on the international stage.
