After Tamil Nadu, Karnataka planning to ban Online Fantasy Sports

Online Fantasy Sports like Dream 11 have been quite popular nowadays. The youth of this generation tends to like this kind of games. This thing also has adverse effects on the youth.

So, Karnataka is planning to ban online gaming after Tamil Nadu did the same on Friday. Tamil Nadu became the third state after Andhra Pradesh and Telangana to ban online games and gambling.

Tamil Nadu’s governor promulgated an Ordinance to restrict such games from public to prevent them from the “evils of online gaming”.

“DUE TO ONLINE GAMING, INNOCENT PEOPLE MAINLY YOUNGSTERS ARE BEING CHEATED AND SOME PEOPLE HAVE COMMITTED SUICIDE,” THE GOVERNOR’S OFFICE SAID IN A STATEMENT PROMULGATING THE ORDINANCE.

Now, Karnataka is also ready to ban the Online Gaming of every form and is considering promulgating a law to ban online games.

“They have turned our youth into addicts, pushing them into a debt trap and other crimes,” said Home Minister Basavaraj Bommai at the Chief Minister’s Police Medal investiture ceremony at the Vidhana Soudha here on Friday.

According to Mr. Bommai, online games, especially those that are paid or take money as bets, have ruined the lives of many people in the State. “We have received complaints from parents. Once the youth are addicted, we have seen cases where they get involved in various nefarious activities to fund their gaming addiction as well,” he said.

According to the new laws in Tamil Nadu, any form of wagers or online bets using computers or any other devices are banned across the state. People who will be found gaming online will be fined Rs 5,000 and be punished with a six-month sentence, while those who open or keep open online gaming houses will be fined Rs 10,000 and be imprisoned for two years.

Electronic transfer of funds for placing bets, distributing the winnings of games or any other prize money related to online games will also be prohibited under the new ordinance.

So this will be a major blow to all the Online Fantasy Sports platform like Dream11, MyTeam11, Mobile Premier League. They project themselves as operators of a game of skill but will also be banned in all likelihood.
