Acer has expanded into the handheld gaming market with its new “Nitro Blaze 7” device to features AMD’s Hawk Point APU, which seems to have a unique design. With the likes of ASUS and Lenovo in preparation for next-gen offerings, Acer enters this expanding handheld gaming sector with the Nitro Blaze 7 that aims to stand out from other gamers.

The New Acer Nitro Blaze 7 Handheld Gaming Device

Inside the Nitro Blaze 7 is AMD’s Ryzen 7 8840HS “Hawk Point” APU, which has been a popular option for handheld gaming devices. The power consumption in the theoretically expected limit is 15 to 24 watts, making it one of the least powerful U-APUs (35 + watt TDP). It features a configurable TDP between 20-30W and carries an L3 Cache of 16 MB. On the graphics front, you have an AMD Radeon 780M iGPU with RDNA 3 architecture and includes only twelve Compute Units; it is still good enough for entry-level gaming.

Memory and storage include 16 GB of LPDDR5x-7500 memory in the Nitro Blaze 7, which also supports up to a PCIe Gen 4 SSD (up to two TB). There’s also an SD card reader for more storage headroom, a feature already present on high-end rivals such as the ROG Ally X.

On the front is a 7-inch, full-HD (1080p) IPS non-angle-of-view display panel rated for up to an eye-punishing 500 nits of brightness backed by AMD FreeSync Premium. This makes it particularly well-suited for gaming, though the 50.04 Whr battery may not be able to match the endurance of certain market alternatives.

For connectivity, the Nitro Blaze 7 features two USB4 Type-C ports rated at 40 Gbps, along with WiFi-6E and Bluetooth 5.3 support. The device boasts a “gaming-focused” design with red and black accents but lacks back buttons and a touchpad, which might affect user navigation.

Pricing and release details are yet to be announced, but the Nitro Blaze 7 is expected to compete closely with similar offerings from ASUS and Lenovo. The new entry is poised to intensify the competition in the handheld gaming market.
