The new Acer Swift series is one of the first laptops to be verified under Intel’s new Evo platform. All laptops verified under the Evo platform are said to be equipped with boundary-breaking 11th Gen Intel® Coreâ„¢ i5 or i7 mobile processors along with Intel® Iris® Xe graphics.
For any systems to be verified under the Evo platform they must meet the minimum requirements. They are supposed to deliver a whooping of nine or more hours of battery life, host Thunderbolt 4, wifi 6, fast charging, and must have wake time of less than a second. The Evo platform laptops are designed to deliver remarkable battery life and performance while being thin and light and easy to move.
Till now, Acer has only verified Swift 5 under the Evo platform and is still trying to get Swift 3 verified. Swift 5 comes with either a Core i5 or Core i7 processor, and Acer claims it provides 17 hours of battery life but the daily average battery life will probably be still lower.
“The new Acer Swift notebook lines represent a substantial leap forward in performance, responsiveness and usability for our customers who are cultivating a unique blend of work, life and passion-projects on-the-go,” said James Lin, General Manager, Notebooks, IT Products Business, Acer Inc. “Acer took meticulous care to ensure that all aspects of the design were elevated to match the best-in-class experience the Intel Evo platform provides to help our customers achieve more.”
However, the main focus on Acer’s latest release is the inclusion of the new 11th Generation Core processors. The 11th gen comes with a slightly modified version of 10th gen processors architecture and uses four of intel’s latest cores built within its willow cove architecture.
11th generation Tiger Lake:
While the 10th gen processors speed clocked at 4.0 GHz, the inclusion of a new core in the 11th gen has peeked its speed at 4.8Ghz. Intel this time has focused on the frequency gain while keeping the base clock speed at minimal.
The graphics have been improved considerably compared to the 10th gen. It supports up to four 4K60 displays or a single 8K60 display. The Tiger lake is said to support LPDDR4X-4267 up to 32 GB, DDR4-3200 up to 64 GB and intel reports that it will also support LPDDR5-5400 in 2021.
Tiger Lake also includes Wi-Fi 6 and supports up to four Thunderbolt 4 ports per device. Intel has also updated its algorithms to improve power and clocks on CPU, GPU, and memory fabric. Intel has also stated that the internal fabric bandwidth has been doubled to make communication between the CPU, GPU, and memory easier and to transfer much more data.
Acer has not much offered any other groundbreaking updates, apart from the new processor. The Swift 5 is said to have a 14-inch touchscreen with 340 nits of brightness and weighs less than 1kg. The laptop is also covered with an Antimicrobial Corning Gorilla Glass, which according to Acer, shall reduce odors and stains. The overall design of the laptop is also familiar and not anything innovative.
Acer even claims that both the Swift 5 and Swift 3 offers a full HD display and boasts 18 hours of battery life. Although Swift 5 has been verified under intel’s Evo platform, there are still no updates on its other features. If you are looking for a budget laptop then Swift 3 is to be kept an eye on.
