A Wish-Granting Rock Deep in the Mountains — Korea’s Next Occult Thriller “The Rock” Has Found Its Cast

If Exhuma left you sleeping with the lights on and craving more Korean occult cinema, you’re going to want to sit down for this. A brand-new mystery film called “The Rock” has just confirmed its starring cast — and the names attached are enough to make this one of the most exciting Korean film announcements of 2026.

“The Rock” Korean Film: Everything We Know So Far

The Premise: A Mysterious Rock That Grants Any Wish

At the heart of the film lies a colossal, mystical rock hidden deep in the mountains — one that is rumored to grant any wish to those who ask. It sounds almost fairytale-like, until the story begins to unravel the darkness that comes with it.

The occult genre in Korean cinema has been on a sharp rise, with films like Exhuma proving that audiences are hungry for atmospheric, spiritually-charged horror rooted in Korean folklore and shamanic tradition. “The Rock” looks set to continue that momentum — with the same production team that made Exhuma a massive hit now joining this project.

Meet the Cast: Three Powerhouse Performers

Sul Kyung Gu — The Shaman With a Secret

A veteran of Korean cinema with decades of acclaimed performances, Sul Kyung Gu steps into unfamiliar territory here, playing Eul Seok — a shaman concealing a dark secret. This marks his very first foray into the occult genre, and that alone makes it compelling. His gravitas and understated intensity are exactly what a role like this demands.

Jeon Jong Seo — The Investigator Consumed by Mystery

Best known internationally for her breakout role in Burning, Jeon Jong Seo plays Hee Jin, a woman who begins investigating the mysterious circumstances surrounding her younger sister Hee Sun’s death — only to find the truth slowly consuming her entire family. Her confrontation with Sul Kyung Gu’s shaman character is expected to be the film’s dramatic centrepiece.

Seo Eun Soo — The Chilling Emotional Core

Playing Hee Nam, the older sister who joins Hee Jin in uncovering the truth, Seo Eun Soo brings the emotional depth and eerie presence needed to round out this trio. Her performance is expected to deepen the film’s immersive, unsettling atmosphere.

The chemistry between all three was already on full display during the script reading, with released stills capturing a near-cinematic intensity.
