How It All Started?

It began in October 2025 when Chapora Yuvak Sangh took the extraordinary step of sacking nine of their own players over suspected match manipulation — the first club in Goa’s history to turn themselves in. A formal complaint was filed with the GFA and an FIR lodged at Mapusa Police Station shortly after.

The GFA acted swiftly, appointing retired Deputy Superintendent of Police Sandesh T. Chodankar as an independent Integrity Officer. After months of investigation, the Ethics Committee issued chargesheets to 14 players — giving them 10 days to respond — before the committee meets in early March to decide sanctions.

Among the 14 named are: Rohan Krishna Pednekar, Akash Amrut Kudnekar, Akash Sanadi, Bhaskar Jalmi, Krishnanath Shirodkar, Vinayak Rane, Chaitan Dabholkar, Sachidanand Satelkar, Aman Govekar, Minesh Kunkolkar, Satish Kankonkar, Mouzzan Shaikh, Suraj Hadkonkar and Ronaldo Oliveira. One of them serves as a police constable — a detail that has sent shockwaves through the state’s football community.

Life Bans, Passport Seizures & Zero Tolerance

GFA President Caitano Fernandes has left little room for ambiguity. He has personally spoken with Chief Minister Pramod Sawant — who also serves as Home Minister — urging the Crime Branch to pursue the case aggressively. If charges are upheld, the GFA has warned it will push for passport confiscation alongside outright life bans.

Chapora Yuvak Sangh President Pravin Dhabholkar echoed this urgency, warning that leniency now would devastate the trust of thousands of families investing in football academies across the state.

This moment could define whether Indian grassroots football finally gets the deterrent it has long needed.
