Kylian Mbappé Surpasses Cristiano Ronaldo’s Debut Season Goal Record at Real Madrid with Copa del Rey Strike

A Star Turn in Seville

Real Madrid once again showcased their famous fighting spirit in Seville. After going 1-0 down before halftime, courtesy of a stunning strike by Pedri, Carlo Ancelotti’s side clawed their way back into the match. The second half saw the introduction of Kylian Mbappé, a move that immediately shifted the momentum.

Mbappé announced his presence in style, netting a magnificent dead-ball goal — his 34th of the season — to surpass the tally set by Cristiano Ronaldo during his debut season at the Bernabéu in 2009-10.

Mbappé’s Record-Breaking First Season

Kylian Mbappé’s 34-goal haul across all competitions makes his first year in Madrid a historic one. Not only did he edge out Ronaldo’s 33-goal debut mark, but he also joined an elite group that includes Ruud van Nistelrooy (33 goals) and Ivan Zamorano, who still holds the debut-season record with 37 goals during the 1992-93 campaign.

Remarkably, Mbappé’s tally includes goals in major finals:

• A 2-0 UEFA Super Cup win over Atalanta
• A 3-0 FIFA Intercontinental Cup victory against Pachuca
• A 5-2 Spanish Supercopa defeat to Barcelona
• And now, his latest goal in the 3-2 Copa del Rey final loss.

From Idol to Rival: Mbappé and Ronaldo

Mbappé’s admiration for Cristiano Ronaldo has been no secret. The Frenchman has long considered Ronaldo his idol, even staying in touch with the Portuguese superstar for advice.

While Mbappé’s achievement is historic, he remains humble, emphasizing that personal milestones mean little without team success. With Real Madrid still in contention for the LaLiga title, the Frenchman remains focused on lifting trophies rather than chasing records alone.

What’s Next for Mbappé at Real Madrid?

Coach Carlo Ancelotti has praised Mbappé’s potential, suggesting the Frenchman has all the tools to carve out a legendary career at Madrid, perhaps even rivaling the likes of Ronaldo himself.

As Real Madrid fans dream of a new era of dominance, one thing is certain — with Kylian Mbappé leading the charge, the future looks incredibly bright at the Santiago Bernabéu.
