Blizzard has given fans a sneak peek at the upcoming Stadium mode in Overwatch 2. The gameplay trailer is only a couple of minutes long, but it’s full of details, including peeks at new hero abilities, and a look at how teamwork will be essential to mastering this game mode.

Stadium, which is featured in Overwatch 2, is a new twist on traditional Overwatch 2 gameplay, presenting a third-person (with an option for first-person) experience and replacing the normal game with a quickfire best-of-seven rounds structure. Each round is filled with shorter, randomized objectives, which should lead to matches being faster — and likely more frenetic. From the footage presented, however, it’s evident Stadium will require a better level of teamwork than any mode in Overwatch 2 currently, which is saying something when you consider the amount of strategy the game absolutely requires.

In the trailer, a five-player team is seen battling through rounds, taking time between each to strategize and identify areas for improvement. One major issue they face is a dominant enemy, Zarya. A teammate proposes a counter-build specifically to fight against her, indicating that players would allow players to build specialized strategies on the fly. These customizations occur through a buy menu, where players continue to spend in-game currency accumulated across matches.

Very cheap upgrades include buffs like faster attack speed, more ability power, or shorter cooldowns. In the trailer, you can see Ana’s final upgrade, where she can nano boost any visible ally, although the duration is shortened. Other quirky highlights include Moira’s triple-damage orb, Ana self-nanoing, Reinhardt’s lava-infused fire strike, and a miniature B.O.B. for Ashe. For newcomers or those overwhelmed by the mode’s complexity, Stadium will offer pre-built loadouts to ease players into the action.

The mode also introduces new ranked tiers with flashy emblems and unlockable rewards, including skins for Genji, Moira, Orisa, Soldier 76, and Juno. Stadium mode officially goes live on Tuesday, April 22, marking a fast turnaround since its February reveal and bringing a much-needed burst of energy to the game.
