The ominous artwork showcases Rajat Kapoor and Monika Panwar in tense expressions, while a terrifying figure lurks in the shadows behind them. Accompanying the image was the chilling caption: “Some rooms hold memories. This one holds fear. #KhaufOnPrime, New Series, April 18.”

Storyline: The Hostel That Hides Horror

The streaming platform also released a brief synopsis, giving a hint of what viewers can expect from this eerie narrative: “A story of a young woman who becomes entangled in a struggle against unexplained forces inside and outside her hostel room while confronting her troubled past.”

This mix of supernatural terror and emotional exploration sets Khauf apart from typical horror fare. The central character, Madhu, is a young woman seeking independence, only to find herself ensnared in a nightmare from which there seems to be no escape.

Trailer Insight: When Silence Screams Loudest

On April 11, the trailer dropped, offering a closer look at the terror that lies ahead. The two-minute-17-second video opens with Madhu arriving in a new city, eager to rebuild her life. She rents a room in a women’s hostel rumored to be haunted. Strange noises begin. A knock on the door. Then — the horror begins.

With each scene, the tension escalates. As the dark force grows stronger, panic sets in. Rajat Kapoor enters as a determined doctor who attempts to uncover the truth behind the ghostly occurrences and help the trapped girls.

Madhu eventually confesses her greatest fear — being utterly alone — bringing emotional depth to the haunting atmosphere.

Cast and Creators: Powerhouse Talents Unite

The cast of Khauf features a fine blend of veteran and emerging actors like Chum Darang. Alongside Rajat Kapoor and Monika Panwar, the series also stars Geetanjali Kulkarni, Abhishek Chauhan, and Shilpa Shukla. This ensemble promises both compelling performances and character depth.

Created and written by Smita Singh, this marks her debut in long-form storytelling. The series is co-directed by Pankaj Kumar and Surya Balakrishnan, with production led by Sanjay Routray and Sarita Patil under the Matchbox Shots banner.

Speaking about the experience, Pankaj Kumar stated: “Directing Khauf has been an intense and creatively fulfilling journey. This series is more than just a suspense horror drama — it’s a deep dive into fear, trauma, and the unseen forces that shape our reality.”

Surya Balakrishnan echoed the sentiment: “Khauf is a story about fear in its purest form — the fear of the unknown and the fear of losing control. Every frame, every sound, every silence is crafted to immerse the audience in Madhu’s harrowing journey.”
