Xbox leaker and dataminer X0XLEAK is claiming a sequel to Minecraft Dungeons is in the works. Known by the internal moniker Project Spicewood, the game has reportedly been in development for at least two years.
The leak also suggests the game will include a range of locations and points of interest, including Honeycomb Fields, which will contain places like Undermill, a farm, an island, a lake, and a hidden forest. They say the desert area features cliffs, a fortress, mountains, a village, and an Icelagoon. A different setting, a deep forest, could potentially include sites such as a dark underground passage, outpost, witch zone, and shady woods.

Minecraft Dungeons Sequel Reportedly in Development for Two Years, Could Feature New Biomes and Locations
Minecraft Dungeons was released in May 2020 during the COVID-19 pandemic but received mixed reviews. While the game introduced engaging combat mechanics, its limited loot selection and short campaign left many players wanting more. Yet, to its credit, it still has drawn an enormous player base, with over 25 million unique players as of September 2023. Due to its enormous success, the likelihood of a sequel seems feasible as Microsoft and Mojang may look to expand on Minecraft’s core with an array of new features and enhancements.
Minecraft, which financed a generation of groundbreaking game developers and upended the videogame industry, is no longer the videogame phenomenon it was a decade ago. Its model is well established, and though it is still played widely, its audience is different, with the first generation of fans in their late teens or older now.
Minecraft Dungeons looked like it was aimed at a younger audience but the process-driven gameplay lacked the creative freedom that made Minecraft a joy in the first place. Should Minecraft Dungeons 2 be in the works, it could arguably see an end to these shortcomings when making the dungeon-crawling experience that much better with a more involved world and possibly a more consistently fulfilling experience that won’t tire players out after the initial few runs.
