Indian broadband market performs extremely well amidst pandemic

Due to the pandemic’s unexpected lockdowns and changes, the world has inclined towards digital solutions even more. The dependency on broadband connections by the users was extremely high but post-pandemic, it increased significantly.

According to the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI), the total number of broadband users in the country now stands at over 726.32 million, which is 72.6 crores. Among this, the wired broadband market consists of 21.12 million connections. But the market wireless market has seen extreme growth, and it now stands at 705.20 million

Reliance Jio leads the wireless market with 404.13 million subscribers among the telecom providers as of September 30, 2020. Bharti Airtel holds second place with 163.41 million subscribers. Vodafone Idea (Vi) with 119.84 million and BSNL with 17.03 million, and Tikona with 0.31 million subscribers score among the top five in the country.

BSNL is still at the top in terms of wired broadband providers, with 7.80 million subscribers to its service. Bharti Airtel holds second place with 2.60 million subscribers. The remaining 3 positions are held by ACT with 1.73 million subscribers, followed by JioFiber with 1.52 million, and Hathway with 1.05 million subscribers. But the leader BSNL still saw a drop of 50,000 subscribers, while Jio increased its subscriber base by 270,000 (2.7 lakh), and Airtel increased its base by 70,000.

According to sources, BSNL’s Bharat Fiber FTTH service has crossed one million subscribers. The company is also releasing many attractive offers to attract consumers to its services. All the telecom and broadband providers are racing against each other to offer more attractive offers and increase their subscribers.
