Here’s our OTT review of Sookshmadarshini to help you decide if it’s worth your time.

Nazriya Nazim OTT Review: A Homemaker’s Suspicion Turns into a Mystery

The story revolves around Priyadarshini (Nazriya Nazim), a homemaker leading a peaceful life with her family. However, her world takes a turn when Manuel (Basil Joseph), a bakery owner, moves in as their neighbor. Priya begins to suspect that Manuel is manipulating her mother and deceiving everyone by claiming his own mother, Gracy (Manohari Joy), has Alzheimer’s.

When Gracy suddenly disappears, Priya’s suspicions grow stronger. Determined to uncover the truth, Priya embarks on a journey to investigate Manuel’s actions. But as she digs deeper, she realizes there’s more to the story than meets the eye. What happened to Gracy? Is Manuel hiding something sinister? And how far will Priya go to uncover the truth?

What Works: The Strengths of Sookshmadarshini?

1. Stellar Performances

Nazriya Nazim shines as Priya, delivering a nuanced performance that captures the curiosity and determination of her character. Her portrayal of a suspicious neighbor is both convincing and relatable.

Basil Joseph, on the other hand, keeps the audience guessing with his layered performance. His ability to make viewers suspect him as the culprit is a testament to his acting skills and the strength of the writing.

2. Engaging Writing and Red Herrings

The film’s writing is its biggest strength. The story unfolds gradually, immersing the audience in Priya’s perspective. The use of red herrings keeps viewers on their toes, making them question what’s real and what’s not.

3. Black Comedy and Supporting Cast

The subtle use of black comedy adds a unique flavor to the narrative. The supporting cast, including Manohari Joy, Deepak Parambol, and others, deliver solid performances that enhance the overall experience.

4. Mystery and Layers

The whodunit aspect of the film is well-executed, with layers of the mystery unfolding at a steady pace. The gradual revelations keep the audience intrigued, especially in the second half.

What Doesn’t Work: The Drawbacks

1. Slow Pace

Sookshmadarshini is a slow-burn mystery, which might not appeal to everyone. The first half, in particular, feels repetitive and lacks the excitement needed to hook the audience early on.

2. Underwhelming Climax

While the buildup is strong, the climax feels a bit too simple and doesn’t deliver the high-stakes resolution one might expect from a mystery drama.

3. Missed Opportunities in Screenplay

Although the writing is strong, the screenplay could have been more engaging. Priya’s investigation, while intriguing, could have been presented in a way that keeps viewers on the edge of their seats.

Technical Aspects

• Direction: M C Jithin delivers a solid mystery drama with clever writing and red herrings. However, the slow pace and lack of high moments in the screenplay hold it back from being exceptional.
• Music: Christo Xavier’s soundtrack complements the film’s theme, adding to the suspense and mood.
• Cinematography: Sharan Velayudhan Nair’s visuals are decent, capturing the essence of the story effectively.
• Editing: The editing could have been tighter, especially in the first half, to maintain the audience’s attention.
• Telugu Dubbing: The Telugu dubbing is well-done, making the film accessible to a wider audience.

Verdict: A Slow-Burn Mystery Worth Watching

On the whole, Sookshmadarshini is an interesting crime mystery drama with standout performances from Nazriya Nazim and Basil Joseph. The film’s strength lies in its clever writing and red herrings, which keep the audience guessing. However, its slow pace, underwhelming climax, and repetitive first half might not appeal to everyone.

If you’re a fan of slow-burn mysteries with layered storytelling, Sookshmadarshini is worth a watch. For others, it might feel like a mixed bag.

Rating: 3.25/5

Final Thoughts

Sookshmadarshini is a fine addition to the mystery genre, offering a unique perspective through its clever writing and strong performances. While it has its flaws, the film’s strengths make it a worthwhile watch for fans of crime dramas.
