Manchester City head coach Pep Guardiola has stated that he is not looking to make any signings in the January winter window in the transfer market. The Sky Blues were reportedly keen on signing a new left-back, most likely in the form of Nicolas Tagliafico, as well as Argentine and Barcelona superstar forward Lionel Messi.

City spent a great deal of money resurrecting their defence with the signngs of Ruben Dias for 65 million pounds and Nathan Ake for 41 million pounds. In addition, they also made the expenditure on rising Spanish forward Ferran Torres for a cut-price 25 milion pound deal.

Building on this squad is what Guardiola is focused on and so, he thinks that there is no need to bring in new faces in the winter window. The Catalan coach is quoted as saying, “No, not at all. I have a fantastic team to fight for all the titles.” He went onto add, “The guys especially at the back who don’t make mistakes – everyone makes mistakes – but the [guys who don’t make] mistakes that cost a lot, they have more chance to continue in the team.”

Although they have no plans of buying any new players midway through the season, they will likely plot a mini overhaul to refresh the depth of the squad in the summer of 2021-22 season.

Despite the heavy investment in the summer, City have not made the brightest of starts to their league campaign and are currently 13th in the table. However, their League Cup and Champions’ League form have been extremely opposite to that, and they have now sealed qualification to the knockouts stage of the premier European competition.

Pep and his men will hope that ahead of a congested fixture list in the Premier League, they can put together a mighty winning streak, which will rebuild their confidence and see them seriously challenge for the league title.
