Apple’s iPhone 16 lineup has shown minimal design innovation, and while it may continue this trend for another year, the company will eventually need to adopt a more competitive and engaging approach.
According to some reports, Apple is working on its thinnest-ever iPhone which will be launched in the latter half of next year. The other big challenge to the iPhone 17 Air will be one from Samsung, which is expected to have a competing Galaxy S25 Slim of its own in development, likely also seeing an introduction alongside the rest of its S25 family.

Samsung Working on ‘Slim’ Galaxy S25 Model to Compete with iPhone 17 Air
The flagship model is said to be an ultra-thin iPhone from Apple, but will not share many features of the more expensive ‘Pro’ versions. It will have a single-lens camera and get a chip similar to the regular iPhone 17, not the Pro model. However, given this design difference, the models deemed ‘Slim’ could actually respectfully charge a premium over those calling themselves ‘Pro’. Samsung is also developing its own slim counterpart to the Galaxy S25, but little has been revealed about the design.
The Galaxy S25 Slim, identified with model number SM-S937, has been teased, but it does not match the model numbers of the Galaxy S25, S25 Plus, or S25 Ultra. Though we don’t know all the details of the design, it’ll most likely go up against Apple’s iPhone 17 Air. It remains to be seen just how thin Samsung will get the Galaxy S25 Slim in comparison to Apple’s design.
For any iPhone 17 Air plan, Apple should provide an extremely thin shape due to problems in creating it as slim as they want. It won’t be thinner than an iPhone 6 which launched almost a decade ago. The iPhone 17 Air will feature a smaller Dynamic Island and replace the iPhone 17 Plus in Apple’s lineup. As Samsung gears up to debut its slimmer phone first, the battle for the thinnest, most innovative design between the two companies is set to intensify.
