Covid-19 induced lock down’s have resulted in the widespread adaptation of the work from home culture and with this has come to the threat of cyber-attacks. Since most of the employees oh high tech companies are working from their homes. Their networks are insecure and are often a reason for their attacks.

Recently, Cyberattacks from North Korea and Russia have targeted the companies researching COVID-19 vaccines and treatments. According to sources, the attacks were aimed at seven leading pharmaceutical companies and researchers in the US, Canada, France, India, and South Korea.

Microsoft corporate vice president of customer security and trust, Tom Burt, stated “Among the targets, the majority are vaccine makers that have COVID-19 vaccines in various stages of clinical trials. It’s disturbing that these challenges have now merged as cyberattacks are being used to disrupt health care organizations fighting the pandemic. We think these attacks are unconscionable and should be condemned by all civilized society.”

The attacker used various methods to carry out the attack including brute force login attempts to steal login credentials. They also used spear-phishing attacks in which they appear as recruiters seeking job candidates.

Though the world is suffering from the pandemic and the cases are increasing. The companies that are trying to create a vaccine successfully are showing some positive response. Amongst them, Pfizer and BioNTech announced their vaccine was 90% effective at preventing symptomatic COVID-19 in trials.

Let’s just hope that these companies get ahead of their schedule and develop the vaccine for the pandemic. The world is suffering under the oppression of COVID-19 and the vaccine is the only hope for all the people on the planet.
