UEFA Euro was scheduled to take place this summer. But after the outbreak of COVID-19 pandemic, it was postponed to 2021.
All the European Championships were held in one country or shared between a pair of neighbouring states. But this year it was decided to be held by ‘Zany Idea’. The idea was first floated by former UEFA President Michel Platini in 2012. This idea defines the tournament will be arranged all over the continent. The tournament is currently scheduled to be played in 12 different countries. The inauguration match was between Turkey and Italy in Rome’s Olimpico Stadium and the final is in Wembley.
But in this COVID-19 pandemic, it is an issue to rethink. It will be impossible to host the competition in its current format with everyone’s safety, keeping in mind.
According to a report in the Mail, UK is willing to take the responsibility to host the tournament. Wembley will host 7 games, Scotland’s Hampden Park will host 4 games as planned till now. If it finally decides to host in the UK then the number of games will increase.
It is reported that a vaccine against the virus will be approved in the next few months. If this finally happens then it will be easier for authority to maintain safety.
It was also decided that some fans will be allowed in the stadium. All the fans will have to go through a COVID-19 test before entering the stadium. It will help the authority to allow maximum attendance with relative safety.
