IND vs BAN 2nd Test

IND vs BAN 2nd Test: Day 3 of the second Test match between India and Bangladesh was called off without a single ball being bowled, as a damp outfield in Kanpur once again played spoilsport. While there was no rainfall on the third day, the overnight showers left the ground too wet for play to resume, much to the disappointment of fans and players alike.

Let’s have a look into more details: IND vs BAN 2nd Test

The umpires conducted multiple inspections throughout the day, starting at 10:00 AM, with follow ups at 12:00 PM and 2:00 PM. Unfortunately, despite the best efforts of the ground staff, the outfield remained unplayable. With no significant improvement in conditions, the decision was made to abandon play for the second consecutive day.

Bangladesh remains at 107/3, with Mominul Haque (40*) and Mushfiqur Rahim (6*) unbeaten at the crease. India’s Akash Deep has been the pick of the bowlers so far, with figures of 2/34 in 10 overs.

Day 2 Washout Sets the Tone

Day 2 had already been a complete washout, with persistent rain making it impossible to even begin play. Heavy downpours in the morning caused significant delays, and by 2:15 PM, the decision was made to abandon play for the day.

India’s hopes of getting the upper hand in the match were thwarted by the weather, as Bangladesh managed to avoid further damage to their innings after losing three wickets on Day 1.

Frustration Mounts as Fans Wait

With no rain during Day 3, the main frustration for fans and players was the slow drying process of the outfield. In an era where many international grounds have state of the art drainage systems, the lack of adequate facilities at Green Park Stadium left spectators disappointed. Fans who had turned out in large numbers had little choice but to wait for hours before official word came in that play had been abandoned.

What Happened on Day 1?

The match began with India opting to bowl first for the first time in nine years at home. Fast bowler Akash Deep impressed with two quick wickets early in Bangladesh’s innings, reducing them to 107/3 by the end of Day 1. Ravichandran Ashwin, India’s go-to spinner, picked up the third wicket, moving past Anil Kumble as the second-highest wicket-taker on Asian soil.

Despite these breakthroughs, the rain interrupted what had been shaping up to be an interesting contest, forcing the players off the field early on Day 1 and halting any further progress since.

With no rain forecasted for the next two days, cricket fans are hopeful that Day 4 will see some action. However, the weather conditions and damp outfield have already cast a shadow over the remainder of the Test. India will be keen to get back on the field and push for a result, while Bangladesh will be looking to rebuild and post a competitive total.
