The iPhone 16 is Getting a New Button: Here’s What It Can Do

According to rumors, the iPhone 16 models to come will be equipped with a new button made for landscape photography ceremonies. Internally known as Capture Button, this new feature will most likely provide extended functionality: gesturing support and pressure sensitivity.

Also, the Capture Button can be used in a few ways according to this rumor. A light press activates autofocus when taking a photo or video while, pressing down as you capture an image. On the other hand, swiping left or right on the button will zoom in/out. Additionally, it could be gesture-based to toggle between photo and video modes like swiping in iPhone camera apps. A favorite among DSLR camera users, this autofocus feature allows a photographer to zero into focus before taking the shot.

In U.S. models, what Apple is referring to as the Capture Button will be placed on top of its mmWave antenna at right from a device perspective. The new button is to the left of the center and will force an antenna relocation on the left-hand side.

CAD renders and dummy models of all four iPhone 16 versions have shown the Capture Button. Although, Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman has hinted that this feature could be exclusive to only the Pro models. While this indicates a shift towards taking photos and clips in landscape mode, it is ideal for watching on the company’s Vision Pro headset.

In the case of iPhone 16, these are said to be a slightly larger display together with the Capture Button and an A18 chip-enabled for Apple Intelligence in all flavors equipped with even 8GB RAM. This extra RAM is mandatory for Apple’s more advanced AI models, carried out by the on-device Neural Engine.

In preparation for the iPhone 16 release, and in line with their plans to keep making major improvements to photography capabilities, Apple has made it explicitly clear that they are still actively improving and fine-tuning how its devices will handle photos shot by consumers today.
