In October, MediaTek is about to do some big things in the world of flagship smartphone chipsets with its Dimensity 9400. Like Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Gen 4, this new SoC is likely to be built on TSMC’s second-generation N3 fabrication node. This advance claims potential gains in both performance and efficiency. Rick Tsai, CEO of MediaTek sees big things in store for the 9400 and expects the annual revenue to go up by as much as 50% only from their new launch.
Dimensity 9400 To Launch in October
Tsai mentioned the returning to seasonal patterns for MediaTek in a July 31 earnings call, stating that “we expect more typical seasonality” by the second half of 2024 and are waiting on consumer demand before committing any other details about Q3 or eight technology devices. MediaTek’s revenue will grow 70 percent in 2023 thanks to the Dimensity family, gross profit of its subsidiary could also hit a record $1 billion due to the success of Mediatek ICs. Such performance has led to Tsai believe that the Dimensity 9400 will be even more impressive with its extra cogs.
As with its predecessor, the Dimensity 9400 is said to be doing something similar where it could miss power-efficient cores entirely and simply lean on performance ones. The device will supposedly run on ARM’s BlackHawk CPU architecture to deliver better single-core and multi-core performance. It is also expected to be based on MediaTek’s largest die ever; with a size of 150mm², and it will squeeze in as many roughly 30 billion transistors. However, we believe it will scale its cache and Neural Processing Unit, increasing the performance of a generative AI-oriented chip.
So that much-awaited month of chipset unveils is looking busy with Qualcomm also expected to take wraps off the Snapdragon 8 Gen 4. In case MediaTek manages to price the new chipset low enough, it stands a good chance of reaching its CEO’s revenue goal. This means the first Dimensity 9400 flagship could come from Vivo if rumors are accurate, with other OEMs to follow.
