HMD Barbie Flip Phone to Launch on August 28th

HMD made several announcements at the Mobile World Congress in February, including news that it would challenge new HMD-branded phones without ditching Nokia smartphones. After the marketing stint, HMD launched its new duo – The HMD Crest and Crest Max in India. HMD also announced a Barbie flip phone and it has now revealed the launch date.

The Upcoming HMD Barbie Flip Phone

HMD has revealed via its X account that the HMD Barbie flip phone will go on sale from August 28th. There is no info about the market which will take delivery of Barbie flip phone. While the full design has not been revealed yet, a teaser image shows it with bright pink around the border and big bold branding on its front.

This Barbie flip phone is expected to be a feature phone, bearing resemblance to the Nokia 2660 Flip, which comes in a Pop Pink color. The Nokia 2660 Flip, priced at ₹4,299, includes a 2.8″ QVGA display, a 1.77-inch QQVGA secondary display, and a 0.3MP camera with LED flash. It also supports dual SIM with 4G, Bluetooth 4.2, a 3.5mm headphone jack, and a MicroUSB port. The device is powered by the Unisoc T107 chipset and features a 1,450mAh removable battery, 48MB RAM, and 128MB of internal storage, expandable up to 32GB.

But after soaring last year with the release of its movie fronted by Margot Robbie, Barbie’s mania has dropped off. Everyone wants to know what HMD has in store for Barbie fans with this flip phone (if anything), and if it comes packing more than just the very basics.

To sum things up, the new Barbie flip phone from HMD could make for a superb feature phone follow-up to the iconic Nokia 2660 Flip. Anticipation is mounting as fans wonder if the flip phone of old has been reimagined with an element of nostalgia for Barbie or something else besides her various cultural revivals.
