Last year AMD was first in the AI PC class with its Phoenix family “Ryzen 7040” debris to be swallowed followed by the AI-optimized Hawk Point “Ryzen 8040” launch, prior to making it into next year in 2024. As such, AMD will soon be unveiling its next-generation Ryzen AI 300 family to compete against Qualcomm’s Snapdragon X and Intel’s Lunar Lake chips next to the introduction of Microsoft’s Copilot+ “AI PC” platform.

Qualcomm is launching its first Snapdragon X laptops today, fully compliant with Microsoft’s Copilot+ platform, while Microsoft has confirmed upcoming Copilot+ support for AMD’s Strix Point and Intel’s Lunar Lake platforms through a future update.

This launch will be followed by another high-performance desktop chip family launch, the Ryzen 9000 “Granite Ridge,” due out on the 31st of July.

ASUS is taking a strong lead in what appears to be the first wave of Ryzen AI 300-based laptops with something for everyone here, from the $1399.99 Zenbook S (above left) with Ryzen AI 9 365, 24 GB LPDDR5x RAM, and 1 TB SSD, through to the flagship $2299.99 ROG Zephyrus OLED (above right) with Ryzen AI 9 HX 370, 32 GB memory, 2 TB SSD, and NVIDIA’s GeForce RTX 4070 GPU.

These models will be available in July, showcasing AMD’s Ryzen AI 9 HX 370 and Ryzen AI 9 365 chips, offering configurations with up to 12 cores and 10 cores respectively. Leaked benchmarks indicate significant performance improvements over the previous generation.

Expect over 100 laptop platforms from OEMs like ASUS, MSI, Acer, HP, and Lenovo to feature the Ryzen AI 300 series, promising a robust lineup of AMD-powered laptops in the coming month.
