OnePlus has announced a partnership with the world’s leading battery manufacturer, CATL (Contemporary Amperex Technology Co. Limited), to develop a new battery technology called the “OnePlus Glacier Battery.”
OnePlus Upcoming ‘Glacier Battery’
OnePlus says the Glacier Battery is a performance battery for performance phones, meaning it sets a new standard in battery life and begins the era of revolution in this component. The details of the innovation are as yet unclear, though. Specific details will be announced in the “OnePlus Glacier Battery Communication Meeting” to be hosted by OnePlus on the 20th of June.
It will be up to another device in time, but we suspect the first phone with the Glacier Battery might be the incoming OnePlus Ace 3 Pro. The device will not launch with a large enough 6100mAh battery, according to the info circulating in the past, with support for this latest assertion coming from the well-known tipster Digital Chat Station on Weibo. According to the report, the Ace 3 Pro will be a dual-cell battery device with two 2,970mAh batteries. That suggests a big improvement in battery life for the device when paired with the Glacier Battery technology.
The tipster claims 9 mm thick is the maximum the Ace 3 Pro will be, despite carrying a really solid battery. The device will also have support for up to 100W fast charging and will apparently come with the ability to charge to 100% in around 30 minutes. More importantly, the tipster also says that the company is preparing a new Glacier battery for many of its upcoming phones, offering huge capacity and blazing-fast charging speeds.
We still don’t know if Glacier Battery is a new battery chemistry, a better cell design, or software tweaks. More will be found in the specifics on June 20, when Intel officially unveils its plans. Furthermore, a leaked poster today revealed the design of the OnePlus Ace 3 Pro. Details about its display and processor were also disclosed, indicating a DisplayMate A+ rating for the screen and a Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 SoC, respectively.
