Atalanta have won the 23/24 Europa League, ending Bayer Leverkusen’s unbeaten run of 58 games this season to earn their first-ever major European trophy. A hat-trick from Ademola Lookman helped the Italian side earn a 3-0 win in the finals, with Leverkusen significantly outplayed.
The last time La Dea won a trophy was the Coppa Italia title 61 years ago. Gian Piero Gasperini has won his first trophy as a coach at the age of 66, and has led Atalanta to only their second ever trophy with the massive win over Leverkusen.

Xabi Alonso’s hopes of a treble have come crashing down afer the defeat to Atalanta. But, the Serie A club were far better on the pitch, using their recent experience in the Champions League to their advantage.
On the other hand, the pressure of the situation seems to have been too much to handle for Leverkusen, with the treble on the line. Next season, they will be playing Champions League football nonetheless as they have already won the Bundesliga title.
Atalanta recently lost the Coppa Italia final to Juventus, which ended their hopes of a double. But now, they have managed to make history with their performance this season, emerging victorious as underdogs yet again.
