On their formal Instagram account, Cartoon Network India participated a picture featuring the unmistakable symbol of Monkey D. Luffy, the series’ promoter – his signature straw hat.

The accompanying caption playfully asked fans to guess” what’s sailing to Cartoon Network India?”

This cryptic communication burned excitement amongst anime fans in India, with numerous assuming that it could only mean one thing – the incoming of One Piece.  

Setting Sail in Local Waters 

 The expectation girding series appearance is farther fueled by the possibility of regional language dubs. Shows like Dragon Ball Z Kai and My Hero Academia have set up immense success on Cartoon Network India thanks to their Hindi, Tamil, Telugu, Kannada, and Malayalam dubs.

It’s largely likely that One Piece will admit analogous treatment, making the grand trip of Luffy and his crew accessible to a wider Indian viewership.  

A detail action and a Hopeful Return  

Interestingly, this wouldn’t be One Piece’s first passage on Indian TV. Between 2006 and 2007, Cartoon Network India vented both the 4Kids English dub and a Hindi version of the series.

Originally shown on weekdays, the original run covered the Arlong Park Arc before being removed from the schedule. Although it subsequently returned for weekend marathons, raising four episodes per day, the broadcast eventually stopped after reaching episode 82. 

 Assignments Learned from the history  

The former attempt at raising One Piece faced challenges. The Hindi dub reportedly featured heavy censorship, potentially hindering audience connection with the story.

Also, low viewership numbers might have contributed to the show’s cancellation. Still, the anime geography in India has experienced a significant changeover in recent times. The popularity of anime, particularly One Piece, has soared. 

 An Alternate Chance with High possibilities  

This changed interest in One Piece presents Cartoon Network India with a golden opportunity. By avoiding excessive censorship and prioritizing a faithful dub that captures the core of the series, the channel can make sure a successful adaptation.

Considering Cartoon Network India’s track record of delivering high-quality regional language dubs for recent anime acquisitions, there’s a strong sense of hopefulness surrounding this potential return of One Piece.

One Piece: A Global Phenomenon

Eiichiro Oda’s One Piece is a global phenomenon. The manga, which began serialization in 1997, holds the Guinness World Record for the maximum number of comics published by a single author for the same series.

The anime version, which premiered in 1999, boasts a devoted global fan base. The story follows Monkey D. Luffy, a young man who thoughts of becoming the Pirate King.

After by mistake consuming the Devil Fruit Gomu Gomu no Mi, he gains the power to stretch his body like rubber. Luffy embarks on an exciting adventure to find the legendary treasure One Piece and claim the title of Pirate King.
