Tron: Ares – The Upcoming Tron Movie

After beginning production this year, The Hollywood Reporter revealed that Tron: Ares is officially scheduled to premiere on October 10th, 2025. This release date comes 15 years after the film in the series, Legacy. The previous installment had been in development for 28 years before its release. The announcement of the release date follows the unveiling of the image of Leto’s character with a target release window in 2025.

With filming for Tron: Ares starting only in January 2024 an end-of-2025 release was already expected due, to production work needed for the franchise’s trademark visual effects. Releasing Tron: Ares quickly in 2025 might lead to a drop, in quality and potential reactions from employees and viewers similar to past industry experiences.

Launching Tron: Ares, around the time of Legacy’s anniversary could offer benefits for Disney. Even if the third installment is loosely connected to its predecessors, Disney could generate excitement by re-releasing the first two movies in special marathons leading up to Ares’ debut, leveraging the devoted fanbase that has grown around Tron: Legacy.

Furthermore, the lack of major competition in October 2025 positions Tron: Ares favorably. With only a couple of other releases scheduled for the month, including Maggie Gyllenhaal’s The Bride! and a new Avatar: The Last Airbender animated movie, Tron: Ares has the potential to dominate the box office without significant competition throughout its release window.
