Real Madrid are keeping an eye on the situation of Trent Alexander-Arnold, with the player’s contract running out in 2025. So far, there have been no indications of an extension, but Liverpool will be keen to retain one of their best players for the long-term, especially someone like Alexander-Arnold, who came through the academy and is poised to be the club captain someday.Â
The reason behind Madrid’s interest is because of Dani Carvajal, and his future. The Spaniard has been a constant presence at right-back since joining the first team in 2013, after a season long spell at Bayer Leverkusen. The Castilla graduate has been consistently at par with expectations for a decade, but his contract expires in 2025, which is why Madrid are planning for the future.
Trent Alexander-Arnold lined up as Dani Carvajal replacement in 2025Â
Carvajal will be 33 when his deal runs out next summer, and while there is a chance Real Madrid could extend his contract further, it’s unlikely how long he will stay at the club. As a result, planning for the future is a wise decision that Madrid have taken early.
Although Alexander-Arnold has been played at right-back by Jurgen Klopp, he is increasingly showing signs of becoming a right sided forward or midfielder instead. Moreover, the defensive side of his game isn’t the strongest either.
And with the stacked attacking line-up Real Madrid are set to field from next season including Kylian Mbappe, a player who is defensively sound will be vital in keeping balance. So, even though the prospect of signing Trent Alexander-Arnold is appealing, it wouldn’t work out well, even if Madrid can convince Liverpool to sell.Â
