Qualcomm recently introduced the Snapdragon 8s Gen 3 as their high-end System on Chip (SoC), just as they had mentioned earlier. This version maintains the structure of the 8 Gen 3. With tweaks in clock speeds.
The All New Qualcomm Snapdragon 8s Gen 3
The platform highlights on-device AI capabilities, an Imaging Signal Processor (ISP) engaging mobile gaming with realistic graphics, innovative connectivity options, and high-quality lossless audio. As per the company, it supports AI models like Baichuan 7B, Llama 2, and Gemini Nano.
Key updates include switching to the Snapdragon X70 modem of the X75 from the 8 Gen 3 replacing 8K HDR capability with 4K HDR video capture while keeping the triple ISP setup from the previous generation. Moreover, the Qualcomm FastConnect 7800 Mobile Connectivity System remains unchanged offering Wi-Fi 7 speeds up to 5.8 Gbps and dual Bluetooth connectivity for a user experience.
Even though the Snapdragon 8s Gen 3 includes Real-time Hardware Accelerated Ray Tracing technology, it no longer supports Global Illumination or Unreal Engines Lumen Global Illumination and Reflections System seen in its predecessor due to GPU modifications.
However, the GPU delivers performance to the Adreno GPU present in the 8 Gen 2. The Qualcomm Snapdragon 8s Gen 3 (SM8635) features a mix of Kryo Prime, Performance, and Efficiency CPUs built on ARM architecture, a 4nm TSMC Process Technology, and an integrated Qualcomm Snapdragon X70 5G modem RF system that supports 5G modes and advanced functionalities.
Other features encompass next-gen Adreno GPU with Real-time Hardware-Accelerated Ray Tracing, enhanced gaming capabilities, comprehensive audio codec support, advanced camera functionalities, high-quality video capture, versatile display support, upgraded AI processing capabilities, LP-DDR5x memory support, Wi-Fi 7 and Bluetooth 5.4 connectivity, GPS and navigation enhancements, USB Type-C support with USB 3.1 Gen 2 and UFS 4.0, and Qualcomm Quick Charge 5 technology.
