On Saturday, NorthEast United FC took to their social media platforms to announce the acquisition of Gurmeet Singh as a free agent. The talented goalkeeper has penned a substantial 4.5-year contract with the Highlanders, marking a significant move for both parties.
Gurmeet initially made his professional debut in the Indian Super League with NorthEast United FC back in 2019. Following his stint with the club, he joined Hyderabad FC in 2021. Notably, he also represented the Indian National team during the recent Asian Games.
His return to NorthEast United FC comes with a wealth of experience and achievements garnered during his time away, promising an exciting new chapter for both Gurmeet and the club.

Head coach, Juan Pedro Benali expressed his delight over the acquisition, stating, “We are thrilled to welcome Gurmeet Singh to NorthEast United FC. His addition to the squad will undoubtedly add immense value to our squad. We are confident that his presence will help us better our performance on the field, and we look forward to achieving great success together.”
The player follows a number of other Hyderabad players who have left over unpaid wages. Sana Singh and Nikhil Poojary are two of the high profile players who moved on from the club over the financial situation.
Singh, however, becomes the first exception to make the move outside the transfer window.
