According to industry sources, the CEOs of LG and Meta are expected to meet on Wednesday in South Korea to discuss forging an “AI-XR alliance”. Meeting with LG to develop the Meta Quest Pro 2, the company’s second attempt at a high-end productivity XR headset is one of the scheduled activities.
Meta Quest Pro 2 launch details
In September 2023, news of the purported LG-Meta alliance was initially published. When compared to the first-generation Quest Pro headset, which was first sold in 2022 for $1,499 (approximately Rs. 1,24 lakh), the device was reportedly expected to cost $2,000 (about Rs. 1.65 lakh).
As part of the purported collaboration, a select LG products will also use Meta’s AI technology. For the first time in 10 years, according to the article, Zuckerberg will travel to South Korea to discuss XR headsets also Meta Quest Pro 2. The two companies are expected to announce that they will be working together to produce Meta’s next generation of high-end XR headsets.
Rumor has it that Meta Quest Pro 2 may come pre-installed with LG’s webOS, an improved version of the operating system that LG puts in its smart TVs. Though not yet definite, webOS and Meta AI will be combined on the Quest 2 Pro if the firms’ merger goes through.
The meeting’s scope includes the integration of Meta AI technology into numerous LG products, such as smart TVs and home appliances. There have been earlier reports of rumors of a possible cooperation between the two companies.
