Virgil Van Dijk ‘not sure’ he will stay at Liverpool beyond 23/24

Virgil Van Dijk has remained ambiguous over his involvement in Liverpool’s new era, after the recent announcement of Jurgen Klopp leaving the club in the summer. The defender refused to rule out a possible exit in the summer, saying he wasn’t sure if he would be a part of the post-Klopp saga.

The Dutch central defender was signed by the German manager for a massive fee worth £75 million from Southampton in 2018. And since then, he has grown into one of the best defenders in the world, helping the club win every trophy there is to win.

Virgil Van Dijk refuses to rule out Liverpool exit in summer 2024

The club captain is out of contract in the summer of 2025, alongside Mohamed Salah and Trent Alexander-Arnold. With only one year remaining on his deal in the summer, he will have to be sold to prevent the risk of losing him for free a year later.

“The club will have a big job on their hands, that is well known. To replace the manager and replace not only the manager, the staff is leaving, and there are so many things that will change,” Virgil Van Dijk said.

“I am very curious which direction that will go in. But when that will be announced we will see our situation, I can’t say now.”

It will be another huge blow for Liverpool if a player of Van Dijk’s stature joins Klopp through the exit door at the end of the season. And with the way things are shaping up, it could be a summer of massive changes for the Reds with Salah and Alexander-Arnold also running out of time on their contracts.
