European Super League: 20 of 50 clubs say yes with 2025 start date projected

Yet again, the prospect of the European Super League has come up, with Anas Laghrari, co-founder of A22 Sports, the organisers of the competition revealing that around 20 clubs have given their consent to participate in the tournament out of 50 teams approached. 

And that is enough for them to get started with an estimated date in September 2025. Originally, the Super League was expected to be free to view for all. But it now seems that fans will have to pay a €10 subscription fee to watch the matches if the plans go through.

Real Madrid President Florentino Perez is the mastermind behind the breakaway competition. Him, alongside Barcelona president Joan Laporta and former Juventus president Andrea Agnelli were the ones to originally pitch the plan. 

Recently, the European Super League won the court case against UEFA, with the verdict allowing them to form a separate competition. However, clubs released statements in quick succession rejecting the tournament and any association with it. 

But it now seems that things are changing behind the scenes, and we could be set to witness a new era of football. However, an official announcement is yet to be made over the participating teams, the format or the other technicalities of the proposed breakaway competition.
