Manchester City’s trial for 115 FFP breaches receives undisclosed trial date

Fans have been wondering when Manchester City’s 115 FFP breaches will be heard in court. And while Premier League executive Richard Masters confirmed that the charges will be assessed in a legal procedure, he didn’t announce when it would take place.

The reigning Premier League champions have been found guilty of 115 breaches since 2009. And in spite of swift action against Everton and Nottingham Forest, with the Toffees now staring directly at a second straight points deduction in the same season, City remain unpunished for any of their violations.

City are now on course for a fourth straight Premier League title, and their spending power remains unmatched. Rival fans have been calling for action against their breaches, and will soon have a judgement on the issue.

But, it will likely come in the form of an official statement from the Premier League rather than a highly anticipated trial. FFP breaches have usually been associated with points deductions. However, Manchester City could also be charged with a fine. And considering their deep pockets, that sort of punishment would not make any difference to their plans.

Like Juventus, they may also be banned from competing in European football for a season – which will be a huge blow for the team. But only the official verdict will confirm the extent of City’s punishment.
