AMD’s Zen 5-Based Ryzen CPUs ‘Granite Ridge’ Enter Mass Production, Expected Launch in 2024

AMD’s upcoming Ryzen CPUs, codenamed Granite Ridge and based on the Zen 5 core architecture, have reportedly entered mass production, signaling a significant step toward their anticipated launch. The next-generation Ryzen CPU lineup is poised for a substantial transformation as it adopts the all-new Zen architecture under the codename “Granite Ridge.”

These CPUs are set to incorporate various cutting-edge technologies, aligning with the Zen 5 core architecture and offering compatibility with the AM5 desktop platform, including existing 600-series motherboards. According to AMD’s official roadmap, the release of these next-gen Ryzen CPUs is scheduled for 2024, with the initial lineup expected in the second half of the year.

The launch of these new Ryzen CPUs coincides with Intel’s introduction of Arrow Lake-S Desktop CPUs, utilizing the new LGA 1851 socket. Both AMD and Intel are incorporating AI-specific accelerators in their respective lineups, with Intel also introducing a new NPU design, a slightly updated version of the Meteor Lake CPUs. AMD, however, gains an advantage by being the first to market with desktop CPUs featuring an NPU with the impending launch of the Ryzen 8000G Desktop APU family later this month.

According to hardware insider @Kepler_L2, the AMD Ryzen “Granite Ridge” family has entered mass production. The decision to unveil these chips during the next Computex in Q3 or delay the launch to Q4 rests with AMD. Numerous updates and optimizations related to the Zen 5 core architecture have been observed through various patches and leaked samples.

For users investing in an AM5 platform, AMD assures drop-in compatibility with the upcoming Ryzen CPUs. AMD’s commitment to its AM5 socket extends into the future, with a plan spanning beyond 2025. This dedication to supporting desktop platforms mirrors AMD’s approach with the AM4 platform, showcasing a strong commitment for over seven years. The Zen 5 core architecture is also slated to be featured in the next-generation Ryzen laptop family, codenamed Strix Point, with a planned CPU release in 2025.
