It was only the second match of this year’s IPL and already so much drama happened which led to a super over and helped Delhi to be on the winning side. There were multiple heroic moments in that match. But it is T20. One over makes the difference between a win and a loss.
After winning the toss, Kings XI Punjab had elected to bowl first and they were quite good and lethal till the 15th over of the match. None of the openers or middle-order batsmen of Delhi could stand still except Marcus Stoinis. At the very first, DC had lost its three early wickets in the form of Shikhar Dhawan, Prithvi Shaw, and Shimron Hetmyer.
The poor communication between Shaw and Dhawan led to a runout and for the others, shot selection was below average. Mohammed Shami took some crucial wickets with his deadly pace and bagged his best IPL bowling figure 4-0-15-3. Young sensation Ravi Bishnoi also bowled those tight overs in between and managed to take 1 wicket.
Everything was running well for the Kings. But the destruction came from Marcus Stoinis. After the departure of Shreyas Iyer and Pant, it was the Aussie all-rounder who provided fans with some enthralling fireworks in the end. Stoinis made a quick 53 runs off just 21 balls which helped DC to pass the 150-run mark. The game still could be managed by Punjab, but in the 20th over, Chris Jordan went to ball and Marcus Stoinis just thrashed him by smoking 30 runs in that over.
Along with Ashok Dinda (being hit by Hardik Pandya for 30 runs in IPL 2017), Chris Jordan bowled the joint most expensive 20th over in IPL history. Stoinis started that over with a mighty six. The second delivery went for a wide. Then in the next four balls, he smoked three consecutive fours and a six and completed his half-century. But the drama had not ended. It was the last ball of the innings and Stoinis got out to complete the second run after the first. But eventually, it was a no-ball. So, Stoinis was out but Nortje still managed to gather three runs in the last ball.
In the second innings, Mayank Agarwal played really well for Punjab. But he could not wrap up the match which led to the super over. Kagiso Rabada went to ball the first over and took two back to back wickets of Punjab, by which Delhi has easily managed to win that thrilling match.
