Manchester United have triggered the automatic one-year extension clause in Victor Lindelof’s contract. The centre-back will be joined by Aaron Wan-Bissaka and Hannibal Mejbri as the players who will have one year added to their deal.

The Swede has been in and out of the first team due to injuries, but has been a reliable presence at the back when called upon. As a result, he has remained at the club in spite of the clearout and has grown into Erik Ten Hag’s plans after once being written off.

Lindelof has played 12 Premier League games, registering 901 minutes while scoring and assisting one goal each. A groin injury has sidelined the player for the time being, making up the numbers in the growing injury list.

The 29-year-old will complete eight years at the club if he stays until 2025, having signed for them from Benfica in 2017.

On the other hand, Manchester United seem content with letting Raphael Varane go at the end of his deal. The Frenchman is reportedly at odds with Erik Ten Hag, and could secure a transfer away as soon as the January transfer window.

United are also expected to keep Jonny Evans at the club for one more season with the former Leicester City defender impressing Erik Ten Hag after returning to the Red Devils.
