As part of their massive summer spending spree after their ISL Shield win this past summer, Mohun Bagan SG were looking into transfers for a new forward. Now revealed by Marcus Mergulhao, they approached Brazilian forward Robinho who now plays with Bashundhara Kings. However, they could not get the deal over the line and the player ended up staying with the Bangladeshi side.Â
The Kings decided to increase their financial offer to Robinho and ensured that he signed a two-year extension with them over a move to the ISL.
Mohun Bagan SG’s failed transfer for Robinho comes to lightÂ
The Brazilian winger has been in Bangladesh since his loan move from Fluminense in 2020. And now, he is one of the captains of the club, earning his place in the squad as a result.
In 81 games for Bashundhara Kings, he has scored an impressive 56 goals and provided 38 assists, finishing as the league’s top scorer in 2021, and winning three league titles alongside a Bengali Federation Cup in 2021.Â
Mohun Bagan SG instead opted to sign Australian World Cupper Jason Cummings and Armando Sadiku to bolster their squad. Opinions have been divisive on Sadiku thus far, but Cummings has impressed through and through during his time so far in green and maroon.
The Mariners also signed Sahal Samad, Anwar Ali and Anirudh Thapa to further strengthen their squad and continue to challenge for all possible titles.
