Manchester City completed their long-standing quest for the Champions League in the best way possible, completing the treble in the process alongside the Premier League and FA Cup. The Sky Blues have ascended to the top of football at long last, with Pep Guardiola finally earning his second Champions League winner’s medal.

Upon publishing their financial records for the 21/22 season, Manchester City revealed that they had exceeded the most revenue generated by an English club with €800 million brought in. This includes TV revenue, sponsorship deals, prize money and ticket revenue from all their games in 21/22. However, their net profits were only in the region of €100 million.

All the players had bonus clauses in their contracts triggered as a result of the Champions League win, alongside the administrative staff, which led to a wage bill worth €500 million after the add-ons. Moreover, they also had to pay extra fees to the clubs they signed their current players from, which further diminished their profits.

However, they have remained profitable for the past season and remain a sustainable club. But, their practices have been called into question with a decision pending over the 115 FFP breaches that have been found over the past decade.

The Sky Blues have not been punished yet, but could be at the risk of severe disciplinary action if they are found guilty of these charges.
