Bayern Munich and Germany legend Oliver Kahn has announced the opening of his academy in India to improve the development of youth football across the country. The legendary goalkeeper’s involvement comes on the back of news that FIFA’s Chief of Global Football Development, Arsene Wenger, will visit India this month to discuss the landscape of grassroot football in the country with AIFF President Kalyan Chaubey.

Kahn is expected to launch several academies across the country to help improve the quality of youth football on a broad scale.

Interestingly enough, Oliver Kahn played his final professional game in front of 1,30,000 fans at the Salt Lake Stadium in Kolkata when Bayern Munich played Mohun Bagan. 15 years later, he has announced his decision to return to India and contribute to the betterment of the sport.

President Chaubey welcomed the icon, as revealed in a post on X and wished him well in his stay. He also had an informal discussion with the German about the development of the sport, as well as his plans for the goalkeeping academy.

Kahn was most recently the CEO of Bayern Munich, but stepped down this summer alongside former sporting director Hasan Salihamidzic. However, he is still a revered legend and regularly attends matches at the Allianz Stadium in Munich.
