Another One! Max Verstappen breaks legendary 71-year-old Formula 1 record

Years into the future, Formula 1 enthusiasts will look back on Max Verstappen’s 2023 season as one of the greatest campaigns of all-time. This season alone, the Red Bull driver has already broken the record for:

  • Most wins in a season
  • Most podiums in a season
  • Most consecutive wins in a season
  • Most wins from pole position (as well as consecutive wins)
  • Most wins in a season
  • Most points in a season
  • Most consecutive top 2 finishes
  • Most laps lead in a season
  • Most pit stops to a race win
  • Most races left after becoming champion
  • Most consecutive races as championship leader
  • Biggest championship gap to P2

And now, he has broken a record which has stayed intact since 1952, 71 years ago.

The Dutchman has now passed Alberto Ascari as the driver with the highest win percentage in a single season. Ascari set the record in 1952, when the Formula 1 season only had eight races. He won six out of the eight races held that season to set the win percentage record at 75%.

With only two races remaining this year, Max Verstappen is guaranteed to exceed that number. If he wins only one out of the remaining two, his win percentage stands at 81.8%, which goes up to 86.4% if he wins both. In the unlikely situation that he doesn’t win either, he will have a win percentage of 77.4% which still beats the record.

And considering the unbelievable consistency Verstappen has shown over the last three years, he will be expected to win both to end the season on an all-time high.
